The pigeon, or rock dove, has long served as a universal symbol of peace and hope, inspired by the beloved Noah's Ark story of a white rock dove who brought back an olive branch as proof of the rebirth of the natural world after disaster. The call to save the animals that inspired Noah's Ark continues to inspire the work of Noah's Ark Pigeon Rescue. We believe in protecting all creatures great and small.
After millennia of living and working with humans as domesticated animals, stray pigeons are now some of the most vulnerable animals in New York City, suffering from depredation, deprivation, and injury as they try to survive in our urban environment as an abandoned domesticated species. String litter - hair, synthetic hair, hair nets, and simple thread - are slow landmines for the stray pigeons who forage on our streets and sidewalks. The simple act of unbinding a dove's feet can save them from an injury that can cause a lifetime of pain or deformity.
